Alford House B&B, is located on the outskirts of Corfe Castle and is centrally located on the Isle of Purbeck. It is ideal for exploring the local area including Swanage, Wareham, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, the Jurassic Coast and Hardy’s Dorset.
The sandy beaches at Studland and Swanage, and the Jurassic coastline, a World Heritage site, are a short distance. Local visitor attractions include Monkey World, The Tank Museum, Tyneham Village, Brownsea Island, Farmer Palmer's Farm Park, Durlston Country Park, Lulworth Castle and many local craft centres.
Alford House is on the Purbeck Way, a named footpath leading around the area, and adjoins Corfe Castle Common with almost 500 acres of open heathland, the largest Common in Dorset.
We have a number of circular walks from the house leading all around the area, including the coastal path (within three miles) and we are always pleased to meet people locally off the path.
The centre of Corfe Castle has a number of local shops, including a jeweller, bakery, newsagent, National Trust shop and post office. There are three local pubs and two hotels (all serving evening meals) and two tea rooms. The Castle is open throughout the year to visitors and the Swanage Railway from Corfe Castle station provides a regular steam service to Swanage.
The local towns of Swanage and Wareham (both five miles) have a wide variety of local shops. There is a weekly market on the quayside at Wareham and regular farmers' markets in the area.
Sailing, windsurfing, diving and golf are just some of the activities available locally, please see the links to informational sites regarding the Isle of Purbeck and surrounding areas. |
